Basic DBS disclosure required
Skills & Experience:
At least 6 months experience of working in an Admissions role.
Has experience of liaising and negotiating with headteachers
Has experience of implementing the School Admissions Code of Practice
A minimum of two years administration experience
A minimum of two years’ experience of collaborative working relationships with internal and external services and ability to use effective negotiation and advocacy skills to influence outcomes.
Good oral skills in advocacy, negotiation and when giving advice.
Ability to adopt a process of continual improvement and suggest ways of working more efficiently and effectively to improve service delivery.
What's involved with this role: The role involves managing the annual school allocation process in line with the LA's admission arrangements and legislation, validating applicant information, and coordinating school placements.
You will collaborate with schools to discuss rankings and advice on policy implementation. Additionally, you will handle in-year admissions and fair access processes, liaising with parents, Headteachers, and other agencies, gathering information, and referring cases as needed to the appropriate team leaders.
Key responsibilities:
Ensure the LA’s responsibilities regarding admissions comply with admissions law.
Use initiative and analytical skills to make decisions on admission issues, referring complex cases to senior officers as needed.
Communicate clearly with the public, colleagues, and professionals about admission policies, providing language support where necessary.
Utilize relevant software (e.g., Capita ONE, Microsoft Office) to manage school allocations, online applications, and data for analysis and reporting.
Handle sensitive communication with parents/carers, defusing difficult situations and escalating contentious issues when appropriate.
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external services to support child safeguarding.
Stay up-to-date with admissions legislation and educational factors, continuously improving team procedures and practices.
