The opportunities this post offers are plentiful: Build up experience and skills in Emergency Medicine, required for any future applicationfor specialist training. Working as a staff grade doctor could lead towards the required threshold for a SAS and Specialty Doctor contract in the future, ultimately achieving Specialist in Emergency Medicine (subject to all thresholds being met). Support in undertaking any additional activities of choice, such as fellowships in research, clinical education, ultrasound etc. These could help diversify the candidates portfolio and enhance their profile in any direction their steer their career. The shift pattern typically is a mix of early, mid- and late shifts, as well as night shifts and weekends, on average 40 hours/ week. The rota is DRS4-compliant and managed by a dedicated rota admin team. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is crucially important for job satisfaction and prevention of burnout. For those, seeking to pursue the CESR route, we can provide appropriate study leave time towards exam preparation (FRCEM), as well as secondments to other acute specialities (i.e. Acute Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine). The Department does have CESRConsultant representation which would be of particular benefit for any interested applicant.
