Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Consultant In GUM and HIV medicine. We are seeking a dynamic and highly motivated clinician whodemonstrates excellent leadership skills with regard to individual performance, clinical teams, the Trust and when participating in national or local initiatives. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate effective collaborative working with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and experience in chairing meetings for all specialties and trust at all levels.

The Integrated Sexual and Reproductive Health Services across York and North Yorkshire incorporates five Specialist Sexual Health services (SSHS) and a number of spoke clinics as well as three HIV treatment clinics. We provide a full range of sexual and reproductive health services based at York, Selby, Harrogate, Northallerton and Scarborough covering a diverse client group across York and North Yorkshire within the SSHS we run a range of walk-in and booked appointment clinics across six days and within the HIV treatment services we run booked appointments in York, Scarborough and Harrogate across 4 days. Across the range of services we see approx 32,000 patient attendances annually.

The principle duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive Integrated Sexual Health and HIV services to patients from York, North Yorkshire and surrounding areas who attend out clinics.
1. To at all times comply with the GMC requirements of Duties of a doctor.
2. To ensure patient confidentiality is maintained at all times
3. To ensure you have a good working knowledge of the safeguarding agenda and its relevant legislation, policy and guidance.
4. To undertake duties as defined within the attached job plan in so far as practicable and in agreement with your clinical lead.
5. To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of any trust resources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director.
6. On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trusts Corporate induction programme.
7. To participate in the Trusts Statutory and Mandatory training programme.

Teaching and Training
1. To share responsibility with other consultants for the recruitment and appointment and supervision of junior medical staff in accordance with the trusts policies.
2. To devote time on a regular basis for teaching and training of Junior medical staff, contributing as appropriate to post-graduate and continuing medical education.
3. To devote, through agreement, time on a regular basis for the teaching and training of medical students as part of agreed teaching and training with Hull York Medical School.

Performance Management
• To work with medical, nursing and managerial colleagues to ensure high performance in the following areas:
• Clinical efficiency e.g. optimising clinic capacity with demand and reducing DNA rates.
• Quality of outcomes e.g. infection control targets, reducing rebook rates.
• Financial management e.g. identification, implementation and achievement of cost improvement programmes and participating in efforts to ensure services are provided cost effectively e.g. managing locum agency spend, ensuring clinical teams code activity accurately so tariffs are not missed

Operational efficiency e.g. waiting list activity and demand management


Medical Staff Management
• To work with colleagues to ensure that adequate systems and procedures are in place to control and monitor leave for junior medical staff and to ensure that there is appropriate cover within the clinical areas,
• To participate in the recruitment of junior medical staff as and when required.
• To participate in team objective setting as part of the annual job planning cycle.

To be responsible for the annual appraisal of all doctors in training, Trust doctors, Clinical Fellows and non-consultant grades as delegated by the Clinical Lead/Clinical Services Manager.

Strategy and Business Planning
• To participate in the business planning and objective setting process for the directorate and Trust where appropriate.

To represent the Trust at appropriate clinical networks/other external clinical meetings, as delegated by the Clinical Lead.

Leadership and Team Working
• To demonstrate excellent leadership skills with regard to individual performance, clinical teams, the Trust and when participating in national or local initiatives.
• To work collaboratively with all members of the multi-disciplinary teams and system partners as required.
• To chair regular meetings for the specialties.
• To resolve conflict and difficult situations through negotiation and discussion, involving appropriate parties.
• Adhere to Trust/departmental guidelines on leave including reporting absence.
