Applications are invited for this is exciting opportunity as an Area Roads Engineer, to lead the roads operations team within the Roads Service of Falkirk Council.

It’s a great time to join the team here at Falkirk. Our ‘Council of the Future’ programme is supporting a more enabled workforce, that is encouraged to explore and test new ways of working and to work more holistically across different service areas.

The successful candidate will plan and manage the delivery of the roads maintenance operational service for the Falkirk Council area, including managing the plant, labour and monetary resources deployed in the delivery of this service. The postholder will manage the effective treatment of the Council’s road network in accordance with the Council’s Winter Service Plan.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree standard or have equivalent experience, membership of an approved professional body is desirable, with Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status. The successful candidate will have commercial and financial acumen with a solid understanding of commercial and contractual principles as well as a focus on Health and Safety matters. Experience of managing and motivating employees and the ability to foster good employee relations is essential.

The provision of this service is a high-profile matter and attracts public scrutiny at all times. The service is therefore required to be flexible, innovative and reactive to public demands and pressures. The effectiveness of service delivery can affect the public’s confidence in the provision of Council Services.
