Job Title: Scientist / Engineer - Electromagnetics
Starting Salary: £44,500 - £49,000 (depending on experience)
Location: Towcester, On-Site.
Role and Business Summary:
The Microwave Materials business forms part of the BAE SYSTEMS Advanced Technology Solutions organisation. The role of the Microwave Materials Group is to conduct research into radar absorbent and radar transparent materials/metamaterials as well as supporting the design and productionisation of bespoke antennas. The novel technologies and products designed by the electromagnetics team are exploited through the on-site manufacturing facility.

Typical Responsibilities:
Along with being a recognised technical specialist in the field of Microwave Electronics, the successful candidate will have relevant experience which underpins all aspects of the Microwave Materials business. In addition the incumbent will play a key role in supporting the development of new technologies and opportunities to help grow the business in line with our ambitious growth plans;
The successful candidate will engage collaboratively with diverse teams, including Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Production to drive innovation and advancement. Focus will be on conceptualising and simulating novel materials in the EF and Microwave spectrum, supporting prototyping, measurement and validation processes to support diverse product development stages.
• Form part of a team which maintains and builds our sovereign capability in the field of Electromagnetic simulation, test & measurement, utilising our facilities and equipment to grow the Microwave Materials business in line with strategic requirements.
• Work with other ATS specialists to support key programmes.
• Support and maintain customer and stakeholder relationships to assist in ensuring effective project delivery.
• Design and manufacture LO solutions and conformal antennas.
Your Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Essential:
• Degree qualified in a relevant scientific / engineering discipline with a strong foundation in physics.
• Possess an in-depth understanding of microwave electronics, electromagnetics theory or magnetic materials.
• Experience using vector network analysers for material measurement in free space or wave guide.
• Proven track record of utilising simulation packages, such as CST – Microwave studio, to design and develop functional RF materials (including metasurfaces) or microwave components such as antennas.
• Possesses excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Can work cooperatively and collaboratively with others, to be part of a team and respect the opinions of others.
• Able to identify a problem, obstacle or opportunity and take action in light of this to address current or future problems or opportunities.
• Able to build and maintain good working relationships and networks of with wider Electromagnetics community both within the business and externally.
Desirable:
• Familiarity with radar cross section theory and/or measurements would be desirable.
• Knowledge or experience of Python and/or C# programming.
• Knowledge or experience of Product development and the product development lifecycle.
