Clinical To lead in the management of the site, patient flow and co-ordination of clinical activities as appropriate, working closely with clinical and managerial colleagues. To undertake a wide range of advanced clinical interventions which include the extended role of the Registered Nurse. To provide senior nursing support in the event of a clinical emergency which may require leading the emergency team as first responder in any area of the hospital site while waiting for assistance. Education/Training and Research To be responsible for own Clinical Practice Development and to participate in projects and research that enhances personal performance and the operation of the service. To keep abreast of professional issues and ensure that they are reflected in practice and to maintain advance clinical skills at the required competency. To promote and facilitate evidence based practice and clinical audit within the Trust, raising the profile and enhancing the contribution of nursing to patient care. To undergo and actively participate in your own performance appraisals. To adhere to the NMC Code of Professional conduct working within and accepting responsibility for maintaining agreed levels of competence. Management To provide professional leadership to all clinical areas and to motivate and empower staff to perform their roles. To report any concerns to the Deputy Head of Site/Head of Nursing or nominated deputy and to the Senior Nursing or Management teams within divisions. To ensure a confident, competent questioning workforce. Champion change and encourage and support staff to understand, participate and contribute confidently in an ever-changing health care environment. Ensure cost efficiency and effectiveness in all resources. To be able to analyse a complex situation, compare options available, and examine each for effectiveness and to act within local and statutory guidelines, to take responsibility for ones own professional actions. To work at times in highly distressing and emotional circumstances in dealing with distressed patients, relatives, bereaved relatives, aggressive patients and relatives, and to be able to take charge of any untoward situations that arise. Communication To have the ability to negotiate and use skills of persuasion and counselling in order to defuse potentially threatening/violent and confrontational situations anywhere within the hospital. To be responsible for sustained effective managerial/working relationship and communications with colleagues, professionals and statutory agencies to provide a seamless service for the patient. To communicate with the Deputy Head of Site/Head of Nursing or Lead Clinical Site Practitioner all issues related to Site Management and to be responsible for sustained effective managerial/working relationship and communications with colleagues, professionals and statutory agencies to provide a seamless service for the patient. To assist when necessary in the Clinical areas in the moving of patients to / from beds and trolleys and to and from e.g. A/E to X-ray etc. to reduce delays in patient flow. To communicate with the on call Senior Manager any issues relating to clinical or operational management that have occurred. To produce accurate written reports on out of hours activity ensuring they are delivered in a timely manner.
