Effective governance is vital for any organisation to achieve its strategic objectives. The Corporate Governance and Board Secretariat team is responsible both for ensuring that the DVSA governance framework supports the highest level of decision-making across the organisation and for setting the strategic direction of the DVSA Board and Sub-Committees.

The Governance and Assurance Manager leads the Board Secretariat Manager and reports to the Head of Portfolio Assurance and Governance. The team provide the central function responsible for running the DVSA Board, the Executive Committee, the Audit, Risk and Assurance Committee and several sub-committees.

The role holder will engage confidently with senior leaders in DVSA, championing the assurance principles and values underpinning the Assurance Strategy, encouraging a positive, transparent assurance culture across the Agency, ensuring that Assurance, Risk and Governance are key in the decisions of the Agency.

The role is interesting and challenging and will expose the individual to the highest profile and most significant issues facing the Agency. The post holder will be experienced at upwards management of senior members of staff.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Proactively manage the forward programme of meetings, ensuring that they are well run and focused on delivery of organisational objectives.
  • Guide and influence senior stakeholders on key decisions to deliver the strategic priorities.
  • Working with contributors to prepare, shape and assure the quality of board materials to facilitate quality action-orientated discussion.
  • Responsible for governance and assurance activities such as the Governance Statement, Framework Document and other activities, ensuring that they comply with audit requirements.
