Location: Basildon, Broomfield, or Southend Hospital
Salary: Band 9 - £52 per hour Umbrella LTD

Our client who are an NHS Foundation Trust, one of the largest trusts in the country, is seeking a Director of Operational Estates & Engineering to lead and manage estate compliance, maintenance, and engineering services across our hospital sites. This role is critical in ensuring our estate remains safe, compliant, and operationally efficient while supporting the delivery of outstanding patient care.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Leading the estates and engineering teams to maintain and improve our hospital environments.
  • Managing compliance with statutory and mandatory healthcare regulations.
  • Overseeing planned and reactive maintenance, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective service delivery.
  • Implementing estate risk management and lifecycle planning strategies.
  • Ensuring budgetary control and financial efficiency within the estates function.
  • Acting as the lead for fire safety, energy services, and facilities compliance.
  • Providing strategic input into estates planning and capital investment projects.
  • Engaging with senior management, external agencies, and contractors to drive best practices.
What We're Looking For:
  • A degree (BSc) in an engineering or building services discipline, with Chartered status and membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., IMechE, CIBSE, IET, IHEEM).
  • Extensive experience in estates and engineering management within healthcare or a similar environment.
  • Strong knowledge of NHS estates legislation, Health Technical Memorandums (HTMs), and compliance frameworks.
  • Proven leadership and project management skills, with experience overseeing large estates teams and budgets.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to manage complex estates issues while balancing safety, efficiency, and cost.
