Senior Communications Officer – Role Overview

We are looking for a creative communications professional to join the external communications team at the Valuation Office Agency (VOA).

The external communications team is responsible for coordinating delivery of our stakeholder engagement, public affairs and customer content as well as dealing with the media and helping the organisation prioritise and target our key customers and stakeholder groups.

A core part of the agency’s work is valuing all non-domestic properties every three years for business rates. You will lead on external communications on revaluation, building understanding with our stakeholders and customers of how we make our valuation decisions. You will also support other business areas as needed.

Senior Communication Officer – Key responsibilities

  • To devise, plan and deliver innovative and timely communications campaigns that raise awareness of the VOA’s work with external audiences.
  • To build and maintain effective relationships with external stakeholders and partners that can contribute to the VOA’s strategic objectives.
  • To provide strategic advice to senior leaders, policy and operational teams and promote best practice in external engagement across the VOA.
  • To gather insight and evidence from the business, our customers and stakeholders and use this to inform communications activity.
  • To set clear objectives for communications campaigns and effectively measure impact of communications activity to inform future strategies.
  • To manage queries from the media on behalf of the VOA and take part in the out-of-hours duty rota.
