About the role

We are seeking an experienced General Foreman to lead and manage a team of Section Foremen, Junior Foremen, and Gangers on the Lower Thames Crossing project. This pivotal role will drive operational success while ensuring strict adherence to safety, quality, and environmental standards, contributing to one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects.

What you'll be doing

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management:

Lead and manage a team of Foremen, Junior Foremen, and Gangers to deliver high-quality, efficient work on the Lower Thames Crossing Early Works project.

Motivate the team, ensure high performance, and provide training/coaching as required.

Monitor team competency and encourage continuous improvement through development.

Health, Safety & Environmental:

Conduct regular Safety & Environmental Tours as per the Project H&S Plan for the Lower Thames Crossing Early Works.

Lead accident/incident investigations and implement corrective actions.

Stay up-to-date with health & safety regulations and environmental requirements, ensuring your team is fully informed.

Implement systems to maintain Zero Harm standards across the team.

Quality Control & Engineering:

Allocate resources appropriately to ensure the successful delivery of the project, ensuring team members are sufficiently skilled.

Oversee quality management systems, promote a "Right First Time" culture, and ensure strict adherence to inspection and test plans.

Contribute to the development of improvement initiatives for enhanced project delivery.

Productivity & Commercial Management:

Analyze project schedules and performance to make suggestions for improvements.

Track and manage labor, plant, and materials, ensuring project resources are used efficiently.

Contribute to the procurement process of subcontractors and the management of associated commercial aspects.

Monitor and report on budget and resource allocation for the Lower Thames Crossing Early Works.

Stakeholder Management:

Work closely with internal teams including Foremen, Agents, Engineering Staff, and the Health & Safety Team.

Manage external relationships with subcontractors, clients, and other stakeholders involved in the Lower Thames Crossing Early Works.

Who we're looking for

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Strong leadership skills and experience managing multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Proficient in Health & Safety legislation and best practices.
  • Extensive experience in leading and delivering large-scale highways projects.
  • Ability to manage resources effectively, including scheduling, training, and performance management.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively influence and guide the team.
  • Excellent knowledge of construction tolerances, quality management, and environmental protocols.
  • Proficiency in IT, with good knowledge of project management tools and systems.
  • Holds a valid CSCS card and a full driving license.
Desirable Qualities & Experience:
  • Demonstrated experience in leading high-profile road projects with a focus on customer satisfaction.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities with a solution-oriented approach to project challenges.
  • Experience in taking full ownership of projects, from initiation to handover.
  • Skilled in commercial aspects of project management, including cost control, subcontractor management, and resource allocation.
