An exciting opportunity has arisen within Moorfields Eye Hospital Adnexal Service for a dynamic and caring nurse to provide ophthalmic care, information and advice to patients with eyelid, lacrimal and orbital conditions.
This is a developmental post. The successful applicant will commence the role at Band 7 and will be expected to gain ophthalmic experience in the diagnosis and management of ocular adnexal conditions, undergo minor illness assessment, and obtain a non-medical prescribing qualification. Upon completion of training, they will progress to a Band 8 Advanced Nurse Practitioner role.
In this part time post the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing the patients’ adnexal condition at the first point of contact, providing autonomous practice which demonstrates high level of accountability at an advanced clinical level, delivering high-quality direct patient care, making critical medical and surgical decisions and providing treatment based on advanced clinical skills assessment and non-medical prescribing.

With support from the Nurse Consultant, be responsible for a caseload of patients surgically and managing new and review nurse led clinics in-person and via telemedicine.
Work in partnership with individuals, families and carers, using a range of assessment methods as appropriate (e.g. of history-taking, holistic assessment, identifying risk factors, mental health assessments, requesting, undertaking and/or interpreting diagnostic tests, and conducting health needs assessments).
Assess, diagnosis and treat patients, develop treatment plans within set guidelines, and record clinical findings using the department information systems, when necessary collaborate with the
multi-professional and/or refer to the senior clinical colleagues as appropriate.
Challenge practice so that the best and most appropriate treatment is given to the patient; maintaining and monitoring high standards of care, recognising and responding proactively to patients’ changing clinical needs.

The post holder will work in collaboration with the Adnexal Team; Consultant, Medical Consultants, Senior Nurses and Health Support Worker and the Matron and wider Trust to deliver high quality, safe effective care and experience to patient, families and carers.
The post holder will provide advanced ophthalmic nursing care in accordance with evidence-based practice, legislation, policies, and procedures.
The Advanced Nurse Practitioner should continuously seek
to develop and implement improvement, meet key performance indicators, quality and safety standards relevant to the service.
The post holder with support from the Nurse Consultant, will be responsible for a caseload of patients surgically and managing new and review nurse led clinics in-person and via telemedicine. Successful candidate will be required to demonstrate communication and specialist skills, knowledge and expertise in adnexal conditions.
Moorfields has provided expertise in ophthalmology for more than 200 years and continues to be at the forefront of new breakthroughs and development. The post holder will be working with the multidisciplinary team which will provide opportunities to support management, research and audit projects in this specialty.
The successful candidate must have a first level degree, be a Registered Nurse (Adult) with a minimum of 3 years relevant, recent clinical ophthalmic experience at Band 7 or above and be prepared to take on management responsibilities. Post-registration qualification in ophthalmology and working at or towards master level qualification is required.
