Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an HIV/Blood Borne Virus specialist nurse within Northumbria Sexual Health's three-tier service. We are looking for an enthusiastic and driven individual to join our service to provide care to patients diagnosed with HIV and Hepatitis C. This post requires the successful candidate to work across sites and to carry out some community visits. The service operates Monday to Saturday and you may be required to work between 7am and 7 pm depending on the needs of the service.

To provide a high quality clinical support service to patients living with HIV/BBV.
This role will provide a responsive and creative approach to improve services provided to HIV/BBV service users across North Tyneside and Northumberland within clinics and within the home. (Giving support within Northumbria Healthcare Trust to 4 Consultants and 2 sexual health services).
Driving and supporting innovation and new ways of modelling services with use of telemedicine.
Developing high quality services that will meet local and national targets while testing and reviewing new approaches and models of care management across an integrated pathway.
This post will provide clinical leadership and expert advice, working autonomously providing total patient management and to train and educate other practitioners in HIV/BBV, HIV/
We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. Working across the medicine and community business units this post will strengthen the accountability structure, governance and support systems for HIV/BBV and sexual health. It will make a major contribution to achieving the aims and objectives of Medfash/BHIVA/BASHH/NICE sexual health standards and Public Health Outcomes framework 2013-14.
Managerial Aspects:
• To contribute to service developments and coordination of an integrated model of provision and processes within the service, supporting primary and secondary healthcare, junior staff, health advising, nursing, admin staff and students.
Clinical / Professional Aspects:
• Where appropriate to provide partner notification services for HIV/BBV across Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust and integrated sexual health services, including Infectious diseases.
• Clinical Nurse Specialist role providing expert advice on sexual health, HIV/AIDS/BBV to secondary and primary care staff as well as to members of the public.
• To have a sound theoretical and practical knowledge of HIV/BBV and related issues, including a comprehensive knowledge of Anti-Retro-Virals (ARV), with a commitment to keeping up to date with changing treatments in HIV.
• To provide the results of investigations to patients when appropriate.
• Ensuring appropriate follow up arrangements are made as necessary.
• To be responsible for the follow up and recalling of newly diagnosed HIV/BBV patients who fail to attend or make an appointment to obtain their HIV/BBV result.
• To provide health promotion and support to newly-diagnosed patients.
• To identify, manage and, where appropriate, refer patients with complications of their clinical condition.
To drive uptake of HIV/BBV testing within primary care.
• To provide community visits for HIV/BBV patient management as well as clinic support.
• To support and drive the use of telehealth/ technology in the home.
• To support and manage clients receiving Post Exposure Prophylaxis for Occupational or Sexual exposure (PEPSE).
• To provide teaching / training / education of professionals and the public.
• To provide expert telephone support and advice to the public and professionals regarding HIV/BBV and sexual health issues.
