The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Building Control Manager to lead our Building Control Team to help ensure construction work comply with the Building Regulations.
In this role, you will lead and manage the delivery and performance of the Building Control, Local Land Charges and street naming services, supporting the delivery homes and economic development.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with Building Act, Building Safety Act, CDM regulations, HSE Safety Management systems, Building Safety Regulator requirements (including the Operational Standard Rules) and all other legislative and regulatory requirements in relation to building control.
Provide expert technical and regulatory advice to stakeholders in relation to building control.
Own, review and keep up to date building control policy, procedure and process
Build operational capability by providing coaching, training, and mentoring to staff, whilst ensuring they operate on restricted functions wholly within the remit of their registration with the Building Safety Regulator
Reward and recognising good performance and values led behaviours
Create an inclusive team environment that supports wellbeing, innovation, and growth.
Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.
Work Style
At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more or less frequently, this can be negotiated.
This role falls into the category of Flexible Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way:
2-3 days in the office (subject to business needs)
Works both from home and the office, depending on the task at hand.
Training is provided to help balance work-life and manage time effectively, with an emphasis on communication for team touchpoints and planning in-office days for collaboration.
About You
We are looking for an individual who is passionate about Building Control and public safety, and who possesses the following skills and experience:
Essential Criteria:
Registered with Building Safety Regulator at class 2, A to F and class 3 G to H.
Expert understanding of building control legislation .
Planning resourcing and measure performance of a time bound statutory service.
Excellent customer service, communication and issues management skills.
Desirable Criteria:
Leadership and Management qualification (Chartered Institute of Management or similar).
Registered with Building Safety Regulator class 4.
