Summary

Bexley Mental Health Support Team (MHST) is excited to announce that we are recruiting two Band 6 MHST Senior Practitioners to join our award-winning team. Bexley MHST forms part of the wider Oxleas MHST service which works with children, young people and families across a number of primary and secondary schools in Bexley & Greenwich boroughs.

Mental Health Support Teams are part of an exciting National initiative, working in collaboration with education settings, to improve the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people in response to the government’s Green Paper: Transforming children and young people’s mental health provision.

There is a specific focus on early intervention, improving access and supporting the whole school approach to mental health and wellbeing support within primary and secondary schools. Bexley MHST work within a Thrive framework alongside education colleagues and community partners, providing quality care to children, young people and families within a number of mainstream schools in the London Borough of Bexley.

The MHST Senior Practitioner role facilitates the delivery of a wide range of evidence-based interventions, in both 1:1 & group settings, to support young people’s mental health. The role also requires joint working and close liaison with education colleagues to support the whole school approach to mental health and wellbeing agenda. The post holders, together with MHST Lead practitioners, offer support and supervision to the MHST workforce and actively contribute to the delivery & development of a quality MHST service within Bexley.

Oxleas offers a wide range of NHS healthcare services to people in community and secure environment settings. Our services include community health care such as district nursing and speech and language therapy, care for people with learning disabilities and mental health care such as psychiatry, nursing and therapies. Our multidisciplinary teams look after people of all ages and we work in close partnership with other parts of the NHS, local councils and the voluntary sector and through our new provider collaboratives. Our 4,300 members of staff work in many different settings including hospitals, clinics, prisons, secure hospitals, children’s centres, schools and people’s homes.

We have over 125 sites in a variety of locations in the South of England. In London we operate within the Boroughs of Bexley, Bromley Greenwich and into Kent. We manage hospital sites including Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup and Memorial Hospital, Woolwich, as well as the Bracton Centre, our medium secure unit for people with mental health needs. We are the largest NHS provider of prison health services providing healthcare to prisons within Devon, Dorset, Bristol, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, Kent and South London. We are proud of the care we provide and our people.

Our purpose is to improve lives by providing the best possible care to our patients and their families. This is strengthened by our new values:
• We’re Kind
• We’re Fair
• We Listen
• We Care

We seek to appoint two enthusiastic and dynamic individuals with a passion and commitment for early intervention and prevention in mental health. Candidates should have worked previously in mental health clinical settings and ideally have some CAMHS and supervision.

To apply for this position you need to hold a core profession and be registered with a professional body (i.e. nurse, social worker, OT etc).

If you would like to find out more about this National initiative, Bexley MHST team and the MHST Senior Practitioner role we would be more than happy to facilitate discussion via telephone or ms teams call. A senior practitioner already in post would also be happy to discuss the role.
