Summary
To provide a safe and welcoming environment, demonstrating a caring attitude to newborn babies and their families. To work under the direction of the midwives to assist and to teach women to care for their babies. To take part in the daily routine work of, for example, ward, delivery suite and theatre areas, helping other support staff, midwives and doctors. To liaise closely with the baby health care assistant and paediatrician to ensure that neonatal examinations are carried out and documented. To take responsibility for the nursery ensuring that all necessary equipment is available and ready for use. Assist the mother with her chosen method of feeding. Perform daily neonatal examination of the newborn and complete observations and relevant screening on babies as required. Assisting with resuscitation of the newborn (please refer to the job description/person specification for full details on the role)
