Summary
Consultant in Emergency General Surgery Qualifications MB BS or equivalent Successful in intercollegiate speciality examination or overseas equivalent. In date ATLS Entry on Specialist Register (or entry expected within six months of interview) Clinical Experience Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CST in relevant speciality.1 Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems within the speciality of general surgery. Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients Established skills in emergency, GI and laparoscopic surgery JAG accredited in upper GI endoscopy or colonoscopy Management and Administrative experience Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service Ability to organise and manage out-patient priorities, waiting lists Ability to manage and lead surgical firm Ability to develop multi-professional team Teaching & Research Experience Experience of supervising trainee doctors, Ability to teach clinical skills Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems Personal Attributes Ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary team. Good time management Good interpersonal skills and collegiality Enquiring, critical approach to work Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies Commitment to continuing medical education Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels
