Join Our Inpatient Team as an MPAC Consultant Practitioner with an expert practice area of mental health, intellectual disability & autism!

We are seeking a passionate and experiencedConsultant Practitionerwith Multi-Professional Approved Clinician (MPAC) status (including interest from those who are submitting their portfolio for MPAC approval in the next 3 months) to join our Acute Inpatient Mental Health services on Rose and Laurel Wards.

As part of a dynamic and supportive team, you will work as a trainee MPAC or an Approved Clinician, providing leadership for service users who are admitted to acute inpatient mental health services and who may also have intellectual disability or are autistic. Upon approval, you will act as aResponsible Clinicianfor those also detained under the Mental Health Act 1983, offering specialised care and guidance to ensure the highest standards of practice

You will work alongside a full-time Consultant Psychiatrist, with each of you acting as Responsible Clinician for approximately half of the patients on the two nearby acute psychiatric wards. Rose Ward is an 18-20 bed ward for working-age women, and Laurel Ward is an 18-20 bed ward for working-age men. Both wards are currently in the Morrison Building at Springfield Hospital, but are due to move in 2027 into brand new purpose-built accommodation currently under construction at Tolworth Hospital.

This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in providing exceptional care and leadership and delivering the expectations within the NHS England Mental Health, Learning Disability and Autism Inpatient Quality Transformation Programme. Through this programme, Rose and Laurel Wards, and their multidisciplinary teams which you will lead, will over time develop particular expertise in the treatment of people with autistic traits and/or intellectual disability who have acute mental illness.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead the development and delivery of treatment strategies for individuals with complex mental health, intellectual disabilities, and neurodiversity needs, including autism.
• Act as the Approved Clinician, managing clinical decisions, care plans, and assessments.
• Provide clinical leadership and mentorship to multidisciplinary teams, ensuring a high standard of care across all service areas.
• Participate in service development, policy implementation, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Deliver expert advice, supervision, and training to professionals and trainees.
