You will also maintain relevant documentation in order to demonstrate adherence to the Fundamental Standards required by the Care Quality Commission.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Registered Manager
TYPE OF WORKING: Team working
KEY DUTIES: An activity assistant will work:
• To introduce yourself to newly admitted residents and help them settle into their new home while establishing how they would like to spend their days
• To assist residents, and their families, complete their Life Story files. (Due to Covid restrictions, conversations with family members may be restricted to telephone calls to complete this duty)
• To assist / arrange a range of activities on an ongoing basis. The term “activities” is used loosely – some will be organized events, some will be 1:1 time spent talking with, and listening to, residents, some will be activities for small groups, some will be activities for larger groups and some will be spontaneous interaction with residents etc. Residents should have the opportunity to do things that they enjoy, but may need support with, every day. You will be led by what the residents want to do but may need to make suggestions. The “activities” on offer will need to be adapted to the abilities of the individual resident
• To welcome and provide support for outside entertainers at least twice per month, with special events every 2 – 3 months (Currently due to Covid restrictions we are not inviting outside entertainers into the home)
• Assist on trips out as appropriate to the abilities of the residents and smaller trips (ie when a few residents can be taken out in cars / taxis) as and when appropriate. (Currently, due to Covid restrictions we are not taking groups of residents out)
• To plan events ahead of time and provide adequate advance warning to stakeholders eg place announcements in the Linden Latest, on the notice board, by the front door, verbal invitations, group emails, place advertisements in local media, update Facebook etc
• To ensure that the timetable of planned events on the Events Noticeboard is up to date at all times and that posters are placed around the home
• To ensure that all residents are approached and encouraged to become involved in activities (reference should be made to their care plans / life stories to identify old or existing hobbies and interests).
• To strive to work with every resident who wishes to engage with you at least once a week but particularly to encourage those who may appear reticent or withdrawn to interact with you on whatever level is acceptable to them
• To encourage relatives, volunteers and staff to become involved and to continue some of the activities when you are off duty. (Due to Covid restrictions visitors are not permitted within the communal areas – only their loved one’s bedroom)
• To liaise with the Head Chef with regard to the preparation and activities for special days eg Christmas, Valentine’s Day, special birthdays, theme days, pop up pubs etc.
• To maintain records on the electronic care planning system (CMS) of the activities undertaken by the residents – and ensure that these are accurate (ie may need to ask other staff to complete these records at times)
• To maintain records relating to the budget spent and keep Sandra Joyce informed (where appropriate)
• To take part in staff and residents' meetings and attend training as required.
• To comply with all Health & Safety, Fire Legislation and Linden House's Policies and Procedures at all times
• To take steps, relevant to the role, to prevent, reduce or control the risk of infection within the home.
• Any other duties as may reasonably be required.
