Summary

If you’re passionate about our water environment and want to make a difference to the quality of our rivers in Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire (GMMC), then this might be the perfect role for you.

We’re looking for an individual with good planning, communication and data handling skills to help plan and deliver environmental benefits, with the primary focus being Water Quality.

The successful candidate will work on a variety of aspects of water quality planning to understand the risks, find solutions and work with those who can effect change. They will review and advise stakeholder (mainly water company) plans, and ensure they comply with environmental regulations.

They will also be required to understand, analyse and translate a variety of information into evidence that can be used to inform and influence decisions by technical and non-technical audiences.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You are required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training is given. We will work with you to find a role that suits your interests and circumstances.
The team
The Integrated Environment Planning team is a centre of expertise for environment planning and decision making. We bring together a wide range of evidence to support the identification of environmental opportunities and to prioritise the delivery of functional environmental outcomes.

We are a friendly and diverse team divided into three workstreams - Water Quality, Water Resources and Catchment Planning. We work with other teams across the area and with external partners to facilitate integrated action.
Experience/skills required
Knowledge and experience of the following would be advantageous:
• Working with external partners, influencing decisions and demonstrating leadership
• Water company price review and asset management plans
• Water quality legislation, policy, strategy and permitting
• Analysing large data sets in order to make evidence led decisions (experience of statistical packages is desirable)
• Water quality modelling techniques
• Awareness of how water quality is impacted by wider environmental pressures and an ability to communicate this to different audiences

Essential: A degree in a relevant environmental discipline or equivalent experience.

Desirable: Membership of, or working towards a membership of, a relevant professional institute (e.g. CIWEM)
