Summary


AMU East is an acute area which aims to provide acute assessment and care to treat those with varying medical conditions. We incorporate two areas in one, East acts as more of a receiving unit of patients from A+E that require acute care and inetrvention and MSDEC have medical patients requiring emergency care, but who can be managed safely the same day and without the need to admit into hospital. Our aim is to diagnose, treat and provide suitable follow up care to patients and where necessary triage to specialist areas. This approach improves the trusts admissions and emergency bed usage, clinical outcomes and 4 hour performance rates. In turn also enhancing patient experience and maintaining independence.

To provide efficient high-quality portering, this role includes transportation of patients, specimens, goods, blood products, medical gases and equipment around the site. This particular role is for 11.5 hours daily, and will include a share of long days, nights, bank holidays and weekends.

Please note that this job is very physically demanding, requiring to the transportation of patients, beds, trolleys, wheelchairs and being on your feet for prolonged periods of time. Kindly take this into consideration before applying.

1. To undertake all portering tasks, as requested by AMU team and managers.

2. To respond to emergency calls e.g., cardiac arrest, fire, lift release etc in accordance with Trust procedures.

3. To maintain good hygiene practices in the tasks performed as per infection control procedures.

4. To observe Health & Safety regulations at all times.

5. To attend staff induction and training and an annual appraisal interview.

6. To ensure that service user complaints referred to Supervisor / Manager.

7. To ensure the transportation equipment is kept clean and in working order, and to report any defects to the Supervisor / Manager to be rectified as quickly as possible.

8. To transport patients as per Departmental and Trust procedures, with due regard to their dignity and respect.

9. To maintain a smart appearance at all times, wearing the allocated uniform.

10. To undertake duties in a courteous, sympathetic manner with due regard to privacy, dignity and confidentiality at all times.

11. To work as part of a team and be flexible in approach to duties in order to cover annual leave and sickness, noting that the postholder will be required to work Bank Holidays as rostered and that annual leave will not be granted over Bank Holiday periods.

12. To carry out any reasonable task requested by Supervisor/Manager.
