Summary
Principal Duties & ResponsibilitiesProfessional1. Portray a positive image of the Trust and act in accordance at all times with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and the Scope of Professional Practice.2. To assist the Matron in the development, implementation, delivery and evaluation of an asthma service in both community and secondary care environments.3. Contribute to the development of respiratory pathways and policies.4. Co-ordinate the developing diagnostic service, working in partnership with colleagues in primary and secondary care to provide a high standard service consistent with national guidelines and recommendations for best practice.5. Using clinical skills deliver the Spirometry and Fractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide (FeNO) for children and young people, including reporting to referrers.6. Develop patient involvement strategies to facilitate an innovative forward-thinking approach, enabling the service to be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the CYP.7. Using available data, audit the effectiveness of the asthma service on patient outcomes, admissions, readmissions, length of stay and primary care consultations8. Have excellent IT skills. Demonstrate the ability to use electronic patient care systems, national databases, and be able to effectively record patient consultations. Maintaindatabases, be proficient in the use of excel spreadsheets, Microsoft word, power-point etc.9. Demonstrate the ability to safely and effectively assess respiratory patients, including severe asthma patients. As an autonomous practitioner, utilise the ability to analyse and interpret clinical information to make an effective clinical judgement regarding a treatmentplan.10.Have excellent awareness of physical health assessment and recognition of a deterioration or abnormal health assessment within sphere of competence.11.Have a good awareness of treatment options to ensure optimal care, including an awareness and understanding of pharmacokinetics and prescribing issues.Management1. Attend service review meetings as required and in the absence of Matron, be responsiblefor the day-to day running of the CYP clinical diagnostic asthma service, ensuring thatactivities required by DGHNHSFT are undertaken and completed in a timely framework.2. Maintain accurate, comprehensive patient records in accordance with the Trust/NMC anddata protection act.3. Ensure the service remains integrated within clinical care pathways.4. Must demonstrate an excellent understanding of clinical governance and risk managementand can apply to work / clinical situations.5. Undertake the measurement and evaluation of practice using evidence-based practice,audit and outcome measures. Make recommendations and implement changes to practiceto improve patient care.6. Will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with patients,carers and inter-professional colleagues.7. Demonstrate advanced practice in holistic assessment, planning, implementation andevaluation of care for children and young people.8. Participate in managing staff. This will include managing sickness absence, performancemanagement, annual leave, appraisal, mandatory training, medical device training,recruitment and selection of new staff.9. Will have a good awareness of Health and Safety legislation and the implications forpractice.10.Ensure the resources are managed effectively and be aware of financial constraints.11.Will have an awareness of audit and research process and be prepared to participate whenrequired. Possess the ability to evaluate evidence / research relevant to asthma care12.Manage incidents and complaints as per Trust Policy.13.Maintain a personal professional profile to demonstrate specialist practice and reflection.14.Establish and maintain a local and regional network of contacts. Optimise multi-disciplinaryworking relationship.There may also be a requirement to undertake other similar duties as part of this post in order toprovide a quality service.
