Summary


The Estates Department operate and maintain, energy and environmental resources, controls, electrical and mechanical services providing power, lighting, heating, air conditioning to wards, outpatients and operating theatres. Estates directly impacts on patient welfare, frontline clinical care, infection prevention and control and energy efficiency and sustainability across the Estates Trust.

We have an exciting opportunity for a committed, highly self-motivated individual. The Royal Marsden is looking for an Estates Officer to join the Estates Team in Chelsea. This is a highly valuable broad ranging role, which will expose them to the whole range of Estates services including mechanical, electrical, building & energy control systems and project management. The candidate must be highly proactive in developing their technical knowledge in all aspects of training and work undertaken, engage in active discussions about skills, techniques, methods and approach to tasks in order to develop as a skilled professional. The Estates Department is responsible for providing the safe operation of planned, reactive and emergency maintenance to The RMH Trust. The Estates Officer having a range of duties will support the department, and the wider Trust in providing a comfortable, safe and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors.

The Trust incorporates many building types and engineering systems, all of which must comply with current legislation, guidance and recommended approved codes of practices, therefore it is crucial for the post holder to have or gain knowledge of the plant and systems, including:

• To understand the operation and maintain the Building and Engineering Services and systems a high standard and utilised in a safe and efficient manner.
• To develop rapport and empathy with other staff groups, patients and visitors where this is necessary to support job completion.
• There is a need for good communication skills which will assist the department to gain the cooperation of others and maintain good relations, for instance to encourage the workforce to take up new equipment familiarisation, learning physical skills on the job or new work practises.
• Supervise and undertake breakdowns of service equipment, and see that testing, maintenance, fault diagnoses are carried out appropriately, timely and that repairs to all Building or engineering services plant and equipment are safe.
• To be a source of reference for the workforce when they are undertaking engineering or building repairs, new work, manufacture/assembly/erection and use of test equipment. This includes the supervision of contractors and subcontractors which may involve the installation of specialist equipment or plant.
• Therefore, formal skills training and updating of technical knowledge, policies, practices and procedures associated with day to day maintenance and the construction industry and building services systems is essential. This along with significant trade experience will be used when liaising or providing technical advice, drawings or documents.
• Attend courses and seminars as required on or off site.
