Summary

Job SummaryThe post is a Staff Nurse post in the Outpatients Department with responsibility for co-ordinating Pre-operative assessment The main responsibilities of the post will be to: Co-ordinate the pre-operative assessment clinics. Work within the operational policy for pre operative assessment, ensuring that patient information is collected and reported to the Consultant Surgeon/Anaesthetist in charge of the patients care. Be responsible for the day to day running of the pre-operative assessment clinic. Assist the Outpatient Manager in setting professional standards and the monitoring of performance against these standards. Liaise with the MDT and patients to maximise planning of patient care, including post-operative planning, discharge planning. Assist the OPD Manager in continually improving and developing the service. To provide patients with written and verbal information that the patientrequires. To ensure that the provision of the pre operative assessment function is cost effective.Roles and ResponsibilitiesClinical care Assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidence based nursing care Collect, collate, evaluate and report information, maintaining accurate patient records. Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations. To ensure that steps are taken to provide a safe environment for patient, staff and visitors. Demonstrate nursing skills to staff, patients and relatives. Contribute to the setting of standards and key performance indicators for nursing care. To be aware of and practice professionally in accordance with the NMC code of conduct and the scope of professional practice. To ensure the privacy and dignity of all patients is paramount and not compromised. To work collaboratively across the organisation Ensure the effective and efficient use of departmental resources both physical and financial To work in general clinics as and when required Communication Co-operate and liaise with medical staff and all other members of the multi-disciplinary team. To ensure that when working in general clinics and there is no Sister on duty the department has adequate cover and correct skill mix of staff on the duty rota. To communicate with the Sister/ Outpatient Manager on a daily basis regarding patient care. Develop knowledge, understanding and application of personal Leadership skills. To take responsibility for /be the lead for specific areas within the the department following discussion and agreement with the ward/department Manager. EducationEnsure own compliance with regard to mandatory training and PREP requirements. Ensure own compliance with regard to mandatory training and PREP requirements. Develop own clinical knowledge and participate in the development of others To participate in an annual performance review to identify the post holders development needs. Clinical Governance 1. Assist the ward / department Manager in audits and the development and implementation of action plans 2. Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines. General To present a professional appearance which gives a positive image of Fairfield and a manner that is appropriate and inspires confidence. To attend regular meetings as requested by Management.
