Job Summary:


Grosvenor Services is looking for an experienced to Environment Department to oversee the waste management operations at Westfield Stratford. This role is essential in ensuring the efficient and compliant handling of waste and recycling processes, while driving operational excellence and sustainability initiatives.


As Operations Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing waste collection, segregation, and disposal services, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and maintaining high service standards. You will also manage a team, liaise with key stakeholders, and continuously improve waste management strategies to align with sustainability goals.

This role requires strong leadership, problem-solving, and organisational skills, as well as the ability to drive operational efficiency within a fast-paced retail environment.


Key Responsibilities:



Operational Management
  • Oversee day-to-day waste management operations, ensuring services are delivered efficiently and in compliance with environmental regulations and health & safety standards.
  • Manage waste collection, segregation, and disposal to achieve waste reduction and recycling targets.
  • Ensure all waste management procedures are optimised for cost efficiency and sustainability.
  • Work closely with waste contractors, service providers, and retailers to streamline waste management processes.
  • Monitor and maintain waste management equipment, ensuring it remains operational and well-maintained.
Team Leadership & Supervision
  • Lead, motivate, and support a team of waste operatives to ensure high standards of service delivery.
  • Provide training and guidance on waste handling, safety procedures, and best practices.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and implement improvement plans where necessary.
Compliance & Auditing
  • Ensure full compliance with local and national waste management legislation and company policies.
  • Conduct regular site audits to assess compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of waste streams, ensuring proper reporting and documentation.
Stakeholder Engagement & Continuous Improvement
  • Work collaboratively with retailers, tenants, and management teams to improve waste management processes.
  • Identify and implement innovative solutions to enhance waste efficiency and sustainability.
  • Prepare and present reports on waste performance, highlighting key trends and areas for improvement.
  • Support corporate sustainability initiatives, ensuring waste management aligns with environmental goals.

Qualifications & Experience:


  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in waste management, operations, or a related field, preferably in a retail or commercial environment.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and supervise staff effectively.
  • In-depth knowledge of waste management best practices, environmental regulations, and health & safety compliance.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience in collaborating with service providers and tenants.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting, with the ability to track waste performance and drive improvements.
  • Experience in managing budgets and cost control within an operational setting is highly desirable.

  • This role is based in a dynamic shopping centre environment, requiring flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends in line with operational needs.
  • Requires physical activity, including walking extensively across the shopping centre and occasional lifting of waste-related materials.
