Supporting our new Chief Executive and Executive Cabinet, the Assistant Director role is an exciting and challenging opportunity for an experienced leader who is passionate and driven to design and implement successful strategies and approaches to support the delivery of large scale organisational change and improvement.
You will ensure a comprehensive corporate policy and performance framework is in place and embedded across the council as well as leading and managing a modern business intelligence and analysis function. You will oversee the Council’s equality, diversity and inclusion activities as well as actively horizon scan for intelligence and insight on best practice and opportunities for innovation and transformation.
We therefore seek an exceptional leader who has a deep understanding of what makes a local authority excel, as well as the skills and insight to ensure we are at the forefront of good practice.

About You
We are looking for a strong, credible and experienced leader who has passion and determination to drive improvement.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Significant experience working in a political environment and providing support and advice to Elected Members and senior officers
- Experience of leading the development and delivery of strategic objectives and policies through effective corporate and service planning
- Planning, prioritising, persevering and delivering improvement to achieve objectives within timescales
- Experience of performance management in a customer focused business/organisation
- A strong understanding of local government policy and equality landscape and legislation
- Relevant Degree and experience
- Results and outcomes focused solutions
- Ability to learn continuously
- Evidence based decision making
Through your leadership, you will drive forward the Policy, Performance and Improvement agenda enabling services to establish and sustain effective operating models, ensuring they are effectively engaged and supported. In addition, you will lead and support the continued development and effective utilisation of corporate systems to ensure we have effective business intelligence in place and insight data to inform our approach and priorities.
To be successful in the role you will be a proactive, driven individual with an up-to-date knowledge of best practice and strategic thinking in public services, along with proven relevant experience. You will be a confident influencer, adept at managing multiple priorities.
