Public Health Tameside has an exciting opportunity to join the team as a Stop Smoking Community Engagement Officer with a focus on stopping smoking and other tobacco use.

The Role

As a Community Engagement Officer with a focus on supporting communities to stop smoking and other tobacco use, no two days are the samesome days you will be supporting the development of the new community stop smoking service and supporting the staff delivering stop smoking interventions from GP practices. Other days you will be delivering stop smoking training and engaging underrepresented and high-risk communities to work with them to develop appropriate stop smoking support and to support them to access those services.

About You

Here are some of the skills, knowledge and abilities that we are looking for in our newest Community Engagement Officer:

  • You will understand the challenges of the public health / health and wellbeing agenda including the health inequalities experienced by Tameside residents, with particular reference to the tobacco agenda.
  • Have a good understanding of the barriers to different population groups in accessing services.
  • A good understanding of co-production and person-centred practices.
  • Ability to work with and engage with all aspects of the community and all levels of professionals.
  • You must enjoy being part of a team; yet possess the personal management skills to work alone.
  • Support others in developing creative solutions to problems.
  • You need to be reliable, approachable, have excellent presentation / communication skills and a flexible approach to working (occasional evening or weekend working may be required to meet the needs of the service).
  • You will need to be highly organised, motivated and resilient.
