Summary

CSC is looking for tutors to deliver chess lessons and run after-school chess clubs in boroughs across East London. Chess expertise is NOT a pre-requisite. Far more important is the ability to engage with and control a class of children. Most of our work is carried out in primary schools, mainly in Key Stage 2, aged 7-11. We welcome applications from teachers and teaching assistants as well as those without direct classroom experience.

A full training programme is available, including paid time spent shadowing an experienced tutor in the classroom and a comprehensive course to help familiarise yourself with CSC's teaching methods. Tutors follow our award-winning curriculum, complete with lesson plans, activities for the children and worksheets to support their learning.

Teaching takes place during the school day, with the majority of the work available between 9.30am and 4.30pm. We are looking for tutors to carry out a range of work, from single-hour clubs to extended sessions over several hours. Our lessons are delivered to full classes of 30 children with support from a member of school staff. Our clubs are for up to 20 children.

The work is term-time only, covering approximately 30 weeks per academic year. Many of our tutors continue their work in a school year after year. CSC also offers its tutors other opportunities for paid work, at tournaments and special events across the region.

All tutors are subject to an enhanced DBS check and other standard school safeguarding measures. CSC will arrange the DBS check.
