An exciting opportunity exists to become a Research Associate (Application Scientist) within the Royce Institute, School of Chemical, Materials and Biological Engineering at the University of Sheffield. You will work on understanding and developing materials, processes and technology within the ceramic and glass industries, focusing on improving resource and energy efficiency.
The project will be in collaboration with a range of ceramics and glass companies and operate with industry-focused short term projects of 3-6 months. As the research associate, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the projects to ensure its goals are achieved and maintaining collaboration with the companies.
You will be responsible for the collation of data and producing reports for the Royce Institute and collaborating companies as well as papers for science journals. Experimental methods will include the fabrication of ceramics using conventional solid state synthesis, glass processing, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction, fabrication and characterisation of prototype multilayers and mechanical/electrical characterisation.
