About your role 


You will lead the Judicial Secretariat for the South West region, ensuring the strategic coordination of judicial resources, driving operational excellence in regional listing, and delivering high-quality administrative and strategic support to judicial leadership. You will report to the Head of South West Regional Support Unit and will act as a key influencer between senior judicial leadership and the broader HMCTS organisation.
You will support Presiding Judges, Civil and Family Division Liaison Judges (CFDLJ), Delivery Directors, and senior managers on a wide range of judicial matters. This includes overseeing the appointment, deployment, and strategic planning of judicial resources across the region, as well as managing court sitting days and regional judicial training.

You will lead a hybrid team of (currently 4) administrative staff, providing strategic direction and fostering a collaborative work environment.

You’re able to anticipate and resolve complex challenges related to listing and resource management, balancing operational priorities and judicial needs. You’ll also enjoy collaborating with senior leadership, providing expertise and guidance on resource allocation and case prioritisation to support strategy and objectives.

Skills and Experience


Significant experience in leadership roles, particularly within judicial, public service, or operational management contexts.

Comprehensive understanding of judicial resource management and court listing processes.

Proven ability to lead teams through complex and high-pressure scenarios while maintaining service excellence.

Communication - can explain complex processes clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.

Strategic Thinking - proficient in developing and implementing strategies that align with organisational objectives.

Analytical Capability - skilled in data interpretation and problem-solving to inform decision-making.

Team Leadership - proven capability to inspire and manage teams effectively, promoting professional development and accountability.

This position will require travel within the South West region when required. Locations for this role can be any court within the South West region. The successful candidate will be required to work a minimum of 30 hours.
