A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.
We would like to offer an opportunity for an enthusiastic Radiologist who wishes to develop and/or continue their careers in our department’s friendly, harmonious and supportive environment.
This is a full time substantive appointment for UHDB NHS FT for a Consultant Radiologist with a sub speciality interest in Interventional Radiology, this post is based primarily at the Royal Derby Hospital.. However, non vascular interventions are also provided at Queens Hospital Burton, so there would be an expectation of also working across sites.
The successful candidate will join a comprehensive vascular diagnostic and IR service with our existing six other Interventional Vascular Radiologists, participating in a 1:7 IR on-call rota. An ability to undertake basic non-vascular interventional procedures, eg. nephrostomies is essential.
We provide a comprehensive vascular service which includes a wide range of IR procedures, e.g. peripheral limb revascularisation, endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (infrarenal and complex/fenestrated), vascular embolisation, (& prostate), renal and vascular access work and diagnostic CTA/MRA.
Within UHDB there are 50 Consultant Radiologists (part and full time) . In addition we have 18 Speciality Registrars on rotation from Nottingham and Leicester.
Consultant Radiologists cover general reporting in addition to their sub-speciality and participate on the diagnostic or interventional on call rota.
The post attracts 10 PAs (8.5 DCC + 1.5 SPA) but we would be happy to consider part time working arrangements. There is opportunity for additional PAs for dedicated medical student funded teaching. New Consultants are encouraged to support the Radiology Academy teaching programme utilising a purpose-built Academy.
We are keen to promote flexible working. Most Consultants have a full-time job plan which they work over 4 days. Virtually all of our consultants have home reporting work stations and we can work together to achieve a mutually beneficial job plan which enhances the work life balance of any successful candidate.
We are now a large cross site imaging department employing approximately 680 staff offering all imaging modalities. Our equipment portfolio supports modern up to date scanners – 10 MRI and 11 CTs, located in our mains sites and our community diagnostic centres. There are 5 fluoro rooms including 2 dedicated interventional suites and a hybrid theatre.
The Trust Imaging Department also provides imaging services at seven community hospitals throughout Derbyshire and East Staffordshire. Three of these will be designated as Community Diagnostic Centres where comprehensive imaging services will be developed with a number of exciting developments to include new CT, (routine and Cardiac), MRI, U/S training academy, DeXA and X-Ray.
As a trusted organisation at the heart of our communities, we recognise the important role we can play in supporting the public, patients, our own people and local partners in achieving the best of health for the local population and the communities in which they live by providing Exceptional Care Together
Our fundamental Values of Compassion, Openness and Excellence underpin how we intend to work as a Trust and the associated behaviours are becoming embedded in all aspects of how we work.
In return we will offer:
• Development opportunities, including both professional and leadership development
• On-going support through every step of the way from recruitment to when you join our team and beyond.
• A variety of other staff benefits including employee assistance programme, discounted gym membership, onsite fitness classes, car schemes
Key Facts about our Trust:
• We see on average 4810 OP appointments per day.
• We are the 4th busiest Trauma & Orthopaedic outpatients department in England – an average of 2077 per week.
• An average of 1115 patients are seen in A&Es across our network every day – 3rd largest in the country.

• Last year we undertook almost 33,700 planned surgical operations in our 57 operating theatres.
• We are one of only 7 Trusts nationally with more than 50 operating theatres.

• Out-of-hours responsibilities, including participation in the Interventional Radiology consultant on-call rota.
• Active participation in undergraduate and postgraduate education, including training sessions for Foundation Years, Specialty Registrars, and medical students.
• Provision of cover for your consultant colleagues during reasonable periods of leave including care of patients and supervision of doctors in training.
• Responsible for the professional supervision, training, and management of junior medical staff, carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to postgraduate and CPD activity locally and nationally as appropriate.
