Summary
An exciting opportunity has become available for a skilled Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) specialising in acute and critical care medicine to join the team at St George’s Hospital NHS Trust.
The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, management, and treatment of their own caseload of patients with communication and/ or swallowing impairments secondary to a range of medical and neurological conditions (such as critical care, respiratory medicine, cardio-thoracic
medicine/ surgery, senior health, general surgery, renal medicine, general medicine).
The post holder is expected to have had exposure to instrumental assessment and will refer on to and participate in clinics, including videofluoroscopy and fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing.
Experience with tracheostomy is desirable.
- The post holder will provide assessment and intervention to adult inpatients working closely with the multidisciplinary team, involving families as necessary and provide appropriate recommendations. As needed, they will provide training to multi-disciplinary team members. They will be supported by the acute team leads in conjunction with the wider team. The post holder will assist with the work of student placements, provide guidance for speech and language therapy assistants, supervise junior staff, and provide clinical support to the team of SLTs. The post holder will participate in continuing professional development (CPD) to maintain evidencebased practice. The post holder may be requested to participate in research/ audit projects using research methodology. They will support the therapy department with administration and clinical duties. The post holder will receive regular clinical supervision and support to develop specialist clinical and non-clinical skills. They will be joining a highly proficient, professional, patient centred, and innovative SLT team offering excellent support and well established CPD opportunities.
