Summary

Working as a key person and part of the Pre-school staff team under the direction of the Pre-school manager to provide a safe, high quality education and care for children of Pre-school age.

Main Duties

1. To work as part of a team and support other colleagues.
2. To assist with implantation of planned and unplanned learning/ experiences for the children.
3. To help set up the Pre-school room with inviting activities based on the children’s current interests and themes of play.
4. To take initiative at planning and exploring next steps/further learning opportunities for themselves and key children and be proactive in doing this.
5. To act as a key person to a small group of children, being responsible for keeping records up to date – We currently used the online Learning Journey Tapestry. Liaising with parents/carers to ensure that the children’s needs are recognised and met. This may require occasional meetings outside of usual working hours.
6. To write summative assessments and end of year transition documents for Key children at regular points in the Pre-school year. Where possible this will be done in usual working hours, on occasion it may require time spent outside of usual working hours.
7. To advise the Pre-school manager of any concerns in respect of children, parents/ carers and the safety of equipment. Confidentiality remaining paramount where necessary.
8. To attend staff meeting’s, INSET days and training that are within usual working hours.
9. To attend essential training as requires – First Aid, Safe Guarding – and further training as part of continual professional development (CPD).
10. To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families and other staff that is required as part of the job.
11. To actively encourage children’s progress in all areas of development, types and sages of play, by interaction with the children and the extension of their play/activities/exploration.
12. To assist with record keeping and observations in line with the EYFS, Individual Education Plans, Behaviour monitoring and advice from outside agencies e.g.: Speech and Language targets.
13. To encourage the participation and involvement of all parents of children attending the Pre-school.
14. To be flexible within the working practices of the Pre-school and to help with domestic duties as required by the Pre-school manager.
15. To undertake any reasonable duties as directed by the Pre-school Manger or the committee, in accordance with the Pre-school objectives.


*As this is a Pre-school run by a committee of parent’s volunteers, whilst it does not form part of the formal job description, staff attendance at committee meetings is very much welcomed and plays a valuable role in the smooth running of the Pre-school.

This is a term time only role, we are looking for a member of staff 5 days a week, however there could be some flexibility for the right candidate.
The hours are Monday to Friday 8.45am - 3.30pm.
