Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) has developed an innovative new School of Veterinary Medicine. We have a clear ambition to ‘promote the resilience of our graduates to sustainably support the animals and rural communities at the heart of Scotland’s Natural Economy’.

Wayne Powell, SRUC Principal and CEO noted that, ‘We are an ambitious institution with a bold vision for the future. This is a ground-breaking model to expand access to educational opportunities and broaden the range of potential students who would not ordinarily be able to attend a School of Veterinary Medicine. It will also help solve existing skills shortages across Scotland’.

The Opportunity:

The main duties and responsibilities of the role will be to attend to the care of our equines, ensuring high welfare standards are maintained at all times. • Health checks, grooming and application of rugs
  • Cleaning stables and field maintenance

This is a permanent, part-time contract, for 17 hours per week.

    Minimum Qualifications:

There is no formal qualification required for this role, although British Horse Society qualifications or National Certificate in Equine Studies would be desirable (SCQF Level 5). Additional training will be provided for care of ruminants if required.
