Summary
The Glaucoma Service welcomes a Fellow from outside the North Thames Ophthalmology Training Scheme who wishes to improve their knowledge and skills in the clinical and surgical management of Glaucoma. Applicants should still be in an Ophthalmology training post or have recently completed their higher specialist training programme in Ophthalmology. Completion of a formal Ophthalmology Training Programme is preferable (post-CCT or equivalent). The post holder will be expected to contribute to glaucoma research and is expected to hold, or be close to completing a higher degree in the field.
There are 7 surgical glaucoma positions starting in August and one surgical glaucoma position starting as soon as possible. Please highlight which start dates you are applying for.
The Clinical Fellows rotate six-monthly allowing Fellows to work with a number of the consultants during their fellowship. All rotations will involve placements in at least one of Moorfields’ outreach sites, including surgical sessions. Some rotations over the two years will incorporate Saturday clinics and evening clinics (at any site) as part of the regular timetable. Fellows rostered to Saturday sessions at City Road must also be available to review emergency cases from eye casualty during clinic hours.
Part of our expanding service, we have diagnostic hub sites all over the network and so you will have an asynchronous review session as part of your timetable.
Based in the vibrant and fast developing high tech quarter centred around City Road, Hoxton and Shoreditch, we have:
• A lively working atmosphere
• Easy and quick transport links
• Affordable housing in the coolest new developments right on the doorstep
• Career development opportunities for staff at all levels
• A range of attractive benefits that include eye care, generous holidays, and an excellent pension scheme.
Fellows will attend general and specialist Glaucoma Clinics at Moorfields Eye Hospital, City Road and at outreach sites. Two operating sessions are allocated. Mandatory weekly teaching sessions are held for all members of the Glaucoma Service on Wednesday mornings in the Clinical Tutorial Centre at Moorfields City Road.
Specialist interest clinics in Glaucoma include Uveitic Glaucoma, Paediatric Glaucoma, Angle Closure Glaucoma and Normal Tension Glaucoma. The department has an interest in Epidemiology, Genetics and translational basic science research.
There will be opportunities for projects such as research, management or service improvement/transformation during the course of the fellowship and one protected weekly session will be set-aside for this purpose; however the duties of the posts are predominantly clinical.
Teaching
The post will have a teaching role, contributing to the current service teaching programme of the Glaucoma Service and the on-going assessment and teaching of the clinical and surgical skills of the ST’s and Fellows in training.
