Summary

JOB TITLE: Children’s COOK

ACCOUNTABLE TO: NURSERY MANAGER

JOB SUMMARY: To be responsible for the preparation of food, inline with the agreed menus and budgets, and cleaning of kitchen and catering equipment.

MAIN DUTIES:

Operational
• In consultation with the Nursery manager, be responsible for the preparation of menu’s, catering for all children, taking account of any special dietary needs
• To maintain adequate stores and food stuffs in appropriate storage conditions
• To order all food and maintain monthly records for stocktaking purposes of all food stuff
• To be aware of and undertake with the supervision all Health and Hygiene Regulations relating to the provision of service of the highest standard
• To ensure the cleanliness of all catering equipment and appliances is of the standard required by Environmental Health regulations
• To ensure catering supplies storage areas are clean and that food is stored correctly
• To assist in cleaning of all kitchen areas and floors
• To assist with social functions within the Nursery as required
• Prepare and follow procedures for special / preference diet requirements
• Prepare any puree foods required for the weaning menus
• Wash all nursery dishes and cutlery
• Adhere to the agreed menu
• To prepare and cook with the children on occasions

Personal
• Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
• Be responsible for participating in all self-development activities, including appraisals, supervisions etc.

Financial
• In conjunction with the Nursery Manager, assist in monitoring and controlling all catering costs.
• Ensure all meal planning and food ordering is in line with the agreed catering budgets.
• Maintain weekly accounts for inspection by the Nursery Manager

Health and Safety
• Observe high standards of food safety during preparation, cooking and serving of all foods
• Observe company procedure requirements
• Maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and personal appearance in accordance with company food safety policies
• Undertake a shared responsibility for health, safety and cleanliness throughout the nursery
• Adhere to all Health and Safety policies and procedures.
• Be fully aware of all emergency and security procedures e.g. fire precautions, security, dropping off and collection of children

General
• Respect company policies and procedures.
• Ensure a good working relationship with the Nursery staff.
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
• Ensure the company’s policies on diversity and equal opportunities are adhered to.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Criteria:

A reconised catering qualification

Minimum of 2 years catering experience

Capable of working under pressure in an organised way

Good communication skills

Ability to develop effective relationships with colleagues

An understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities

A willingness to undertake further relevant training including some evenings and weekends

Ability to work with children in preparing simple snacks and baking preparation


Desirable:


First Aid Certificate

Experience of working in a childcare environment

Knowledge of food preparation for special dietary needs i.e. vegetarian, cultural

An understanding of Health and Safety in the workplace
