Summary
About the Team:
St Boswells disease surveillance centre is situated in the southeast of Scotland and provides a diagnostic and consultancy service to the sheep and cattle farmers of the area and their veterinary surgeons. The centre manages both the sheep and cattle health schemes such offered by SRUC.
The centre is currently staffed by a veterinary manager and three veterinary investigation officers. There are also three scientific staff.
St Boswells is a popular place to live with many opportunities for outdoor activities in the Scottish Borders and good transport links to other parts of Scotland and further afield.
About the Opportunity:
The successful candidate will be part of the Veterinary Services group. The purpose of this role is to provide post-mortem room and scientific support to veterinary staff. Areas of activity include support of the duty VIO in the PM room and processing of diagnostic samples from postmortem examinations and clinical pathology submissions. There is also a requirement for QA activities within the centre.
Duties Include:
- Work in an environment that is governed by the ISO17025 standard.
- Process samples with regard to Health & Safety and adhering to SOPs.
- Be responsible for monitoring the performance of equipment within the laboratory daily and reporting to the Line Manager.
- Be responsible for designated housekeeping duties to ensure integrity of results – reporting to the Line Manager.
- Participate in appropriate IQA/EQA to maintain competency.
This is a fixed term position for up to 12 months, it is part time for 22.2 hours per week.

Minimum Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be educated to at least SCQF level 5, including English, Mathematics and a Science subject.
