Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Engineer to join one of our key Rail clients based out Manchester

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be working standard days Monday to Friday, call out required as and when on a salary up to £53000 dependant on experience.

As a Mechanical Engineer you will develop maintenance plans and procedures to improve reliability, cost, and maintenance effectiveness of the wagon fleet without detriment to the safety performance of the assets or our people.

As a Mechanical Engineer your role will include various tasks such as:

- Provide rolling stock engineering support primarily focused on the wagon fleet to the production function and wider Freightliner business
- Assist the Fleet Engineer and Head of Engineering Standards in development of our clients Rolling Stock engineering standards ensuring compliance with the relevant industry and company standards.
- Undertake investigations as required to establish underlying root cause of incidents/failures to recommend actions required to prevent recurrence.
- Monitor performance of Rolling Stock to identify where improvement can be made including safety, reliability and cost.
- Develop modifications, standards and procedures to implement improvements in accordance with Freightliner’s Engineering Change Policy as directed by the Fleet Engineer
- Deliver technical projects to enhance the safety, reliability and reduce the overall costs associated with the maintenance, renewal and repair of the company’s Rolling Stock fleet


Competencies required for a Mechanical Engineer would be:

- Minimum 5 years engineering experience of Traction & Rolling Stock
- A working knowledge and appreciation of the operations associated with rail connected terminals.
- Minimum of an HNC (or equivalent) in either electrical or mechanical engineering. Chartered engineer desirable
- Suitable computer-based skills – Excel, AMS, Database, TOPS
- Personal Track Safety Certificate
