A substantive vacancy has been created for a full time (10 PA) Consultant Haematologist with a specialist interest in Thrombosis to join Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The postholder will be an essential cog in the Haemostasis and Thrombosis Service within Clinical Haematology which provides a full range of diagnostic and management services for patients with bleeding disorders and thrombotic disorders such as Haemophilia, Von Willebrand Disease and thrombophilias. The postholder will join the existing team of Consultants, Haemophilia and Anticoagulation Nurse Specialists, Specialist Anticoagulation Pharmacists, and dedicated Haemophilia data manager and social worker.

The main focus of the post is around thrombosis, in particular cancer-related VTE, but the postholder will cover all aspects of Haemostasis including Haemophilia care and anticoagulation management. The post is primary based at the Hammersmith Hospital but encompasses attending cover for Charing Cross Hospital, Queen Charlotte’s, and St Mary’s including an active role in the management of the trust’s warfarin service.

The post holder will cover a range of duties comprising direct clinical duties (including cancer-VTE clinic, general thrombosis clinic, Warfarin clinic management, and attending/on-call duties), participating in local and network MDTs, haemophilia centre and network planning meetings, developing and reviewing guidelines, research, and teaching. These are fully outlined along with indicative job plan in the job description document provided. In addition to these duties, the post holder will be expected to work with the Head of Service in supporting our Anticoagulation Specialist Pharmacists, for example, pre-clinic case discussions and anticoagulation management meetings.

The key area of responsibility for this role will be to provide high quality care to Clinical Haematology patients. The post holder must be medically quality and maintain GMC specialist registration and develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.

• GP advice & guidance

Education components-The post holder will contribute to the teaching programmes for medical undergraduates and Haematology and Transfusion Medicine Specialty Registrars preparing for the part I and part II of the FRCPath examination, including visitors from overseas
