Summary

Dispensing Check all prescriptions prepared by dispensing staff to confirm that they have been correctly dispensed. Provide counselling to patients on new or continuing prescribed medication. Work with the dispensing staff to resolve medication queries efficiently. Liaising with patients and prescribers to agree alternative medication when there are medication shortage issues. Conduct weekly CD (controlled drug) and methadone balance checks in line with SOPs. Conduct patient assessments to determine the necessity of dosette boxes for medication. Ensure weekly prescriptions are in place for those who are assessed as needing their medication issued weekly. Ensure a disability assessment has been completed for all those who need 28-day dosettes issuing under the Equality Act. Destroy out of date or returned controlled drugs in line with standard operating procedures and national guidance. Provide assistance to the dispensary team including completing dispensing duties as required. Check patient Summary Care Records as required for patient care, following GDPR and Information Governance guidelines. Support collection point staff with the safe delivery and collection of patient medications. Services Deliver a range of NHS services, private services and public health contracts, ensuring that guidelines are followed and correct claims are made. Including but not limited to, vaccinations, new medicines service, emergency contraception, ear microsuction and supervised consumption of methadone. Maintain appropriate professional registration and development to deliver the required services. Ensure that services provided are reported via PharmOutcomes and other relevant systems promptly. Buildings & IT Troubleshoot IT problems, involving Emis Health and other providers where required. Regularly check the pharmacy NHS email account for referrals, alerts and other time-sensitive emails. Notify Practice Operations Manager in the event of any building defects. Notify Pharmacy Manager in the event of any equipment defects or other safety concerns. Contractual, Governance & Finance To assist the Superintendent Pharmacist and Pharmacy Manager to: Take necessary action when the pharmacy is notified of alerts & recalls, liaising with the Pharmacy Manager & Superintendent Pharmacist where appropriate. Ensure that any action taken is fully documented. Action, record & report near misses and significant events in line with standard operating procedures. Work within the boundaries of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), escalating any issues to the Pharmacy Manager as required. Ensure that the pharmacy is compliant with GPhC guidance and can evidence this in the event of an inspection. Act as the first point of contact for any complaints, addressing them in a professional and courteous manner. Escalate complaints as required and ensure details are fully documented in line with pharmacy policy. Complete two clinical audits per year to meet quality payment scheme requirements. Analyse and report on the Community Pharmacy Patient Questionnaire (CPPQ) results compiled by the Pharmacy Assistants in line with Quality Payment Scheme guidance. Share the results with staff and the OPL Strategy Group. Deliver Health Promotion within the pharmacy as part of the Healthy Living Scheme and in line with national campaigns. Promote via a variety of means including social media, in-store posters, leaflets and any other appropriate medium. Maintain profitability in the pharmacy through effective claiming of income and effective management of expenditure. Complete the month end process, ensuring returns are sent by the deadline date. Ensure prescriptions are endorsed correctly, overleaf completed by patient, counted, recorded and filed ready to be sent to the PPA for reimbursement at the end of each month. Communication & Meetings Attend periodic staff meetings to discuss upcoming changes and provide training and support. Share knowledge of upcoming changes with the Pharmacy Manager & Superintendent Pharmacist as necessary.
