Our Endoscopy unit at Broomfield Hospital has a wonderful opportunity for a Health Care Assistant to join its friendly and supportive Care team, assisting qualified staff in delivering a caring and effective, patient focused service in keeping with the aims, objectives, and standards of the Trust

Your role will be to assist with the maintenance of a safe care environment including preparing and clearing rooms and equipment with reference to infection control and safe working environment for patients, visitors, and staff and under guidance from qualified staff, sensitive and appropriate clinical care is delivered to meet individuals’ needs, respecting personal dignity and beliefs.

You should ensure information is handled and exchanged with care, accuracy, and sensitivity, always maintaining patient confidentiality and ensure effective communication is maintained within care team and between other care teams, patients, relatives, and visitors

As part of your role you will be responsible for decontamination and you will work with a variety of medical devices under limited supervision within strict guidelines and procedures:
• disassembling
• cleaning
• disinfecting
• checking
• reassembling
• dispatching
• tracking the device, in a controlled environment. For some of these tasks, you’ll use highly sophisticated and automated equipment, and for others you’ll use hand tools You may be handling heavy trays of equipment/medical devices as they come out of endoscope washers .

As the Decontamination Technician your role will be to decontaminate and disinfect endoscopes and accessories, and ensure washing machines are functioning according to the manufacturers recommendations and chemicals and filters are replaced as per policy, collect, inspect, function test, decontaminate, store, and distribute flexible endoscopes for service users according to the documented procedures and report any equipment faults or problems to senior staff immediately.

You will also be required calculate daily scope requirements and prepare accordingly, utilize the departmental tracking system to ensure full traceability of all processed endoscopes can be maintained and provide and maintain a high standard of infection control within the department and help to maintain a safe environment for staff and patients.

As our Health care Assistant you will support the Registered Nurse in patient assessment, performing clinical baseline observations and communicates this assessment and/or report results of any intervention.

You will orient the patient and/or relative (if applicable) to the unit environment, be responsible for recording and documenting episodes of care in accordance with guidelines and liaises with other departments and members of the multidisciplinary team as directed by the nurse in charge following the plan of care and reports any changes in the patient’s condition, contributes with suggestions and ideas of action.
