This is an ideal opportunity for someone who would like to join an established Palliative Care team at St Joseph’s Hospice. The post at St Joseph’s hospice is primarily based within the community team and also providing cover to the inpatient wards. The main contract will be held by St Joseph's Hospice.
Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a medium sized local hospital providing acute and community health services for Hackney, The City and surrounding communities and also provides a range of specialist services for a much wider population. The local population and areas served by Homerton are categorised by a striking diversity of needs. Hackney is one of the most urban and cosmopolitan areas in the country with high levels of poverty and deprivation. There are substantial immigrant and migrant populations. Many languages are spoken and ethnic minority communities constitute over 50% of the population. Hackney’s population at around 250,000 is young, mobile and expanding, and the birth rate is rising.
St Joseph’s is a large 28-bed hospice in Hackney, East London, with a community service covering an inner-city, ethnically diverse population in the boroughs of Newham, Tower Hamlets, City and Hackney. There are excellent modern palliative services, which include a day hospice, complementary therapies centre, bereavement service and access to a multi-lingual advocacy team. Consultants are encouraged to input into a busy and active education centre and develop areas of specialist interest, for example developing links with harder to reach services such as the homeless, undertaking research, audit and education.
Please see the Job Description and Person Specification for more details. Full GMC registration with a licence to practise is essential and applicants should be on the specialist register for Palliative Medicine or be within 6 months of completion of training.
