Senior Research Associates – Gaze and Eye Movement in Interaction

Summary

We invite applications from researchers with experience in advancing HCI and UI technology to join our team on the ERC Advanced Grant project GEMINI (https://gemini-erc.eu). The post is available from February 2025 but there is flexibility for a later start date.

GEMINI explores gaze and eye movement for novel interfaces and as postdoc you would help us tackle core challenges of the project, for example:

  • Modelling of eye, head, hand and body coordinated movement and gaze control
  • Using machine learning to classify behaviours, infer context and recognise input
  • Design techniques that combine input from gaze and body for interaction in 3D

You should have a PhD degree or equivalent experience, a strong motivation for both blue skies research and technical innovation in HCI. You should be confident in prototyping interactive systems, working with sensors and signals, conducting studies with people, and analysing data.

As senior RA, you will lead research that contributes to the top of the field in CHI/UIST and/or VR/AR, provide guidance and support to PhD students and help manage lab facilities and research data. At Lancaster, you will be part of a very international and supportive research environment, and you will be working with a PI who is strongly committed to mentoring and career development.

You will join us on an indefinite contract. However, the role remains contingent on external funding which for these positions is initially for 24 months. The post is available from February 2024, or later. You are encouraged to apply also if you are interested in joining us for a shorter period, for example a postdoctoral year abroad.
