Summary
An exciting opportunity has become available to join the Ealing Special School Nursing Team as a HCA. The Candidate will enjoy working within a school setting with children and young people with additional needs. Ideally this post would suit a person with a level 2 qualification in health, education or child care and previous experience of working with children with medical and additional needs but this is not essential.
The Ealing Special School Nursing Team are part of the Ealing Community Children’s nursing team based at Carmelita House and the wider Ealing Services for Children with Additional Needs (ESCAN). ESCAN is an integrated service, which promotes collaboration between Health, Education and Social Care services. The Special School Nursing Team is committed to providing high quality health care to children and young people within the special schools. The successful applicant will be based in one of the Ealing special schools supporting pupils and school staff directly, under supervision of a registered nurse.
Some flexibility is required, as the post holder will be part of the special school nursing team, covering the six special needs schools in Ealing.

The post holder will be part of the Special School Nursing service meeting the needs of children and young people with complex and continuing healthcare needs inschools.
You will be responsible for implementing and maintaining a high standard ofhealth care as planned and directed by registered nursingstaff working without direct supervision at times.
Be aware of the guidelines and policies in relation to Safeguarding Children and to communicate all issues related to safeguarding to the special school nurse or special school nurse team manager immediately.
Assist and support the special school nurse in day to day care of the children and families on the caseload.
Contribute to the assessment of the child’s needs and recognising factors which effect their health and social well-being.
Deliver and implement planned care as directed, assisting with the monitoring and reviewing of the care given and reporting to the registered nurse and other professionals involved, in a timely manner.
Where identified in the child’s care plan, administer prescribed medication following the completion of specific training and assessment of competence. Utilising identified routes of administration and in line with trust policies and protocols.
An ability to understand and undertake the care of individual patients needs in relation to diet and fluids intake including enteral feeding.

The Special Nursing team consists of experienced nurses and HCAS with a wealth of knowledge and skills in caring for children and young people with complex health needs and learning disabilities in special schools across Ealing. The Special school nursing service provide care to pupils across six Special schools across Ealing.
The School Nursing team work collaboratively with the wider multi-disciplinary teams in the NHS, private health care and local authority services in the community and hospitals.
The post holder will provide direct health care to Children and Young People. The care provided will be delegated by the registered nurse in accordance with the child’s care plan. Flexibility is required to meet the changing requirements of the children in theservice.

The post holder will have the ability to assess a situation and act appropriately; to communicate well verbally and in writing; to implement previous learning into practice; to demonstrate reflective practice and to be organised and self-motivated with excellent interpersonal skills, working as part of a special school nursing team.
Basic IT skills are essential to ensure accurate and timely record keeping.
Previous experience in providing clinical care are desirable, as the post holder will be expected to be hands on providing enteral feeding, stoma care, tracheostomy care, provide support in emergency situations related to diabetes/epilepsy/anaphylaxis/asthma as the children and young people have complex needs and/or life limiting conditions. Full training will be given to successful candidate.
