Role overview

About us

PA is the UK’s national news agency, supplying 24/7 journalism to every newsroom in the country. With more than 150 years’
experience in newsgathering and content creation, we have an unrivalled reputation for being fast, fair, and accurate.

This commitment to excellence was recently recognised at the Media Freedom Awards, where PA Media was crowned National News Media
Organisation of the Year, celebrating our dedication to upholding the highest standards of journalism and defending open justice.

PA sits at the heart of the PA Media Group, a diversified portfolio of news and information companies, including a large data
division, the picture agency Alamy, and the streaming service StreamAMG. With a focus on transparency and the public’s right to
know, we are proud to play a vital role in the UK media industry.

About the role

The PA news agency is looking for a top-class news reporter to be our Los Angeles-based Correspondent on a 2 year fixed term
contract.

This multi-skilled role will involve providing content to be used across all our customers’ platforms, including writing
entertainment news for the newswire and our digital offering, as well as capturing video content when required for big events or
interviews.

Showbiz and celebrity news will be at the heart of the role, but you will also be called upon to cover other major news stories
and assignments both in LA and occasionally across the USA. This could be a big court case or politics story, so our ideal
candidate will be comfortable turning their hand to all genres of news.

Training on some of the elements of the role, such as the video work, will be provided and you will train on the Showbiz desk in
London for as long as is necessary before you head to Los Angeles. A monthly living allowance will be provided to any UK candidate
relocating.

Inclusion

We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where your unique skills, experiences, and perspectives are valued. We
understand the importance of work-life balance and actively support agile working where possible, with most roles typically based
in the office three days a week.

If you need any adjustments during the recruitment process, please reach out to our recruitment team—we’re here to support you
every step of the way.

What you’ll be doing

* Filing fast, accurate and fair copy on the biggest entertainment stories for the UK’s national news agency
* Although showbiz and celebrity news will be at the heart of the role, the successful candidate will also be called upon to
cover other major news stories in LA and occasionally across the US. This could include court cases, politics and much else.
* Attending premieres, awards nights, parties, relevant junkets, festivals, walk of fame and charity events.
* Providing content to be used across all of our customers’ platforms, including writing for the PA newswire and our digital
offerings, as well as capturing video content when required for big events or interviews.
* Building great relationships with key PR people and other contacts in the US.
* Reporting to the Entertainment Editor in London and working with the showbiz team in London on big events when they work
overnight.

What you’ll need

* A proven record of covering breaking news (general and showbiz), court cases, conducting interviews, and producing copy to a
high standard, with previous experience at a news agency level an added bonus
* To demonstrate an excellent knowledge of celebrity and entertainment – and have an enthusiasm for all things showbiz, including
a contacts book bursting with impressive Showbiz contacts
* Experience working in a showbiz news environment, managing shifts and directing workflow of news stories
* To be comfortable monitoring social media and writing about big-name American celebrities and British stars.
* To be where the action is in the capital of the entertainment world, which will involve a lot of evening and weekend working.
* To be a confident self-starter as PA’s only US-based reporter covering US and UK entertainment and someone functions well
independently of a team
* Proven experience of managing your own diary and workload, as well as making editorial calls on stories overnight when the UK
team is sleeping
* An NCTJ or equivalent journalism qualification.

* Up-to-date knowledge of media law
* Minimum 100wpm shorthand

You can also expect ...

* Competitive package including generous holiday allowance
* The opportunity to work with talented colleagues in a supportive and collaborative environment
* A positive culture where your contribution is valued
