Summary


Maternity cover has provided an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic midwife with experience in safeguarding children and adults to develop their skills in safeguarding working in a busy acute Trust. The successful candidate will be supported by the named midwife for safeguarding and work alongside the midwives in the vulnerable women team to provide advice and support to vulnerable women and Trust staff across the whole safeguarding spectrum. The post holder will work with the rest of the safeguarding team to contribute to improving services and the development and delivery of the new and exciting safeguarding training strategy. The post holder will be based at the Royal Free hospital'

The MSA’s will be site based at Barnet Hospital but provide cross cover support as required.

· Provide a highly visible presence supporting staff with all matters relating to safeguarding children and adults.

· Co-ordinate the day-to-day operational management of unscheduled activity for women where there are safeguarding concerns, .

· Take clinical responsibility for vulnerable women who fall outside the caseload of the vulnerable women’s team and for those who have a high level of risk and complexity.

· Provide safeguarding input into the dedicated obstetric clinic for vulnerable women.

· Provide formal safeguarding supervision to community and vulnerable women team midwives in line with the Trust Supervision policy.



· Have oversight of all strategy meetings/case conferences/ core group and discharge planning meetings to ensure representation from the maternity service and effective multi-agency information sharing and planning.

· Support staff during the safeguarding and child protection process,

· Share case responsibility with other case holding midwives for complex cases

· Contribute to and support staff where necessary through the child death process.

· Act as the safeguarding link for perinatal mental health.



· To act as a consistent contact point for multi-agency partners.
