Summary

The Trade and Investment Negotiations - Goods (TING) directorate is part of the Trade Policy, Implementation and Negotiations (TPIN) Group, in the Department for Business and Trade (DBT).

Delivery Focused

The directorate plays a pivotal role in coordinating trade interests and leading the UK's trade policy for manufactured goods. We deliver and implement trade policy and agreements which reflect the needs of UK businesses, so that exporters can be successful and competitive internationally, whether with Europe or the rest of the world.

Expert and Insightful

The directorate is focused on harnessing skills & data valued by DBT and by other Government departments to develop and deliver trade policy that works for UK businesses. We achieve this by sharing our leading-edge expertise, brilliant analysis, upskilling colleagues across the department, and using our cross-Government insights to solve complex problems. Our directorate is comprised of experts in policy, analysis and international trade, plus a dedicated strategic support team.

Inclusive and Flexible

Our directorate is a great place to work and develop your career, while acquiring new skills through a range of learning and development opportunities. We take inclusiveness and diversity seriously and respect difference, as championed by our diversity and inclusion group. Wellbeing and work-life balance is also a top priority, as well as ensuring that the directorate remains an open and friendly directorate free from bullying, harassment and discrimination.

Collaborative and Open

We are committed to building domestic and international partnerships, and bringing people together, particularly external stakeholders, business sectors, and key players in the centre of government.

UKCA Policy and Strategic Delivery

The UKCA Policy and Strategic Delivery team sits at the heart of the directorate and is responsible for parts of the UK’s product regulation policy, alongside priority work to support the smooth running of the directorate.

The UKCA policy side of the team’s current priority is to progress important government legislation through Parliament, the Product Regulation and Metrology Bill. To do this, we work closely with colleagues across the department, government, devolved governments, and external stakeholders.

The strategic delivery side of the team supports the wider directorate on priority projects, finance, governance and corporate policies, helping the senior management team and directorate work effectively.

This role provides an outstanding opportunity to help deliver our priorities of supporting manufacturers and protecting consumers. You will take on an exciting area of work to support the work of the Deputy Director alongside leading on parts of product marking policy.

You will join a high-performing team and will work collaboratively with a diverse group of people to deliver in fast-moving and often changing circumstances. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Bringing together expertise from across government and external stakeholders to support policy development for product marking, and to implement Ministers’ decisions on the approach.
  • Building and maintaining an effective network across government and external stakeholders to help advance the government’s priorities.
  • Providing first class support to the Deputy Director, helping them prioritise their time and engagement with the rest of the team – who are based in DBT locations around the UK.
  • Leading projects on behalf of the Deputy Director, such as managing some corporate work such as recruitment.
  • Being an active member of the directorate’s executive assistant network, to make sure all members of the Senior Management Team are well supported to help the directorate run smoothly.

We place a strong emphasis on planning our work whilst being responsive to emerging priorities, so you will need to be both organised and adaptable! You will be supported by a friendly leadership team who prioritise team development and an inclusive team culture.
