We are looking for a band 6 Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist with a special interest in hands. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills by joining our dynamic team of hand therapists. You will have specialist training from the band 8a Physiotherapist and band 7 OT. We have a great relationship with our orthopedic colleagues and MDT.

To provide high quality and specialist hand therapy interventions to a wide variety of outpatients including the advanced assessment and treatment of orthopedic hand trauma and elective surgery, rheumatology and GP referred patients. To provide group and individual education, to utilize specialist skills in the provision of static and dynamic splints for individual patients, to prevent impairment and improve function, independence and quality of life.



To apply specialist knowledge and skills across the total range of impairments, procedures and practices gained through practical experience, underpinned by theoretical knowledge.



To manage own case load and deputize for Band 7 if required.

. To manage a caseload of routine and complex patients requiring specialist hand therapy assessment and intervention. To ensure rehabilitation is based on evidence-based practice by using advanced clinical reasoning skills to analyse, interpret and make judgements on complex facts or
situations, with consideration given to all available treatment options.

2. To undertake standardised and non- standardised assessment of patients and use advanced clinical reasoning, analytical and communication skills to determine diagnosis and prognosis of condition.

3. To interpret findings of assessments and formulate client centred and specialised programmes of hand therapy treatment based on current evidence, and a sound knowledge of available treatment options using advanced clinical assessment andreasoning skills and a knowledge and ability to use different treatment modalities.

4. To be proficient in a range of therapeutic treatment modalities including manual techniques (range of motion assessment, therapeutic handling and positioning), splinting, task analysis and compensatory techniques, prescription of medical devices and patient education.

5. To evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes as required. This will involve determining the patient’s potential for rehabilitation and future care and support needs.

6. To communicate sensitively and reassuringly complex condition and functional risk/limitation related information to patients/carers, to gain consent to and cooperation in assessment and treatment, and
in giving specialist advice to patients/carers regarding their options for on-going care needs. Being aware at all times of the sensitive nature of some recommendations, and the potential forpatients/carers to have special communication needs resulting in barriers to understanding.

7. To manage clinical risk in relation to your own caseload, seeking guidance and help from senior therapist, as appropriate.

8. To maintain accurate, legible and complete clinical records of all patient related interventions, in line with the Trust Documentation Guidelines. To include the computerised patient database system.
