Summary
Systems Administrator (Linux and Security)
Short summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the world’s leading research Institutes and be part of the ITO team responsible for design, implementation and operation of all IT which manages the running of the institute.
In this role you will work with Infrastructure and Security Operations Centre (SOC) team members to deploy, configure, patch and secure our Linux systems across our vSphere and Public Cloud estate. You will also deliver infrastructure for projects across different ITO teams using version-controlled Infrastructure as Code and Automation tools. The successful candidate will also execute and help shape security policy, projects and operations.
Key Responsibilities
These include but not limited to:
• Configuring, deploying and managing server infrastructure for web application deployments including:
o LAMP/LEMP Stack Applications
o Python Django and Flask applications
o Nginx/Apache
o Mod Security or similar WAF technology
• Installing, configuring and updating RHEL 8 - 9 (Centos/RockyLinux).
• Configuring and managing Ansible, Ansible Tower/AWX.
• Installing and configuring database packages for Postgres, Mysql, Mongodb.
• Scripting and programming - bash, python, other.
• OS patching and package management with Pulp or other tools.
• Docker engine and deployments.
• Administer vSphere environments where required.
• Use version controlled infrastructure as code and pipeline deployments.
• Manage deployments with pipeline tools - Jenkins and Github Actions.
• Deploying, managing and patching OS’s with Ansible or similar tools.
• Responsible for daily system monitoring as part of a team rota.
• Implementation of security policy across the institute’s servers, web services and contributing to ongoing improvements as required.
