Summary

We are currently recruiting for an Estimating Manager to take responsibility for supervising a team of estimators and providing quality outputs, reporting and analysis, supported by other departments to ensure profitability. You'll be required to ensure the pricing produced is both profitable and competitive, and compile quotes with information provided by the mobile delivery team, suppliers, and supply chain. You will also prepare and verify all technical information is correct, and ensure company standards and process are adhered to, whilst being measured on you and your teams overall profitability.

The Estimating Manager will be responsible for managing a team of Estimators across multiple contracts to deliver high volume estimating and cost management processes ensuring profit margins are in line with company requirements. You will also obtain and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure they are competitively priced, and ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and ethical standards in all estimating activities.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Control and deliver the extra to contract work stream administration process flagging any nonconformity issues to management
  • Implement where necessary relevant training across the team to maximise efficiencies/accuracies
  • Contribute to client satisfaction by providing accurate and competitive estimates
  • Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates/quotes which include all commercials within the scope of the project or task
  • Effectively communicate with internal teams, clients, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure clear understanding of project requirements and costs
  • Support other business areas develop operationally sound and commercially aware processes
  • Maintain strong relationships with support departments to identify opportunities to improve overall
  • Support production of management reports for review and sign off
  • Supporting the department to meet internal KPI's & objectives

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in a technical FM estimation role, experience leading a team, and an in-depth understanding of how to develop and analyse cost estimates for projects, materials, and labour. They will also have the ability to analyse and interrogate data to create accurate estimates, often using Excel or other information sources.

Other requirements include;

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • A familiarity with Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulation, health, safety, and regulatory compliance, particularly in construction and engineering environments.
  • Knowledge of materials, products, and methodologies used in the industry.
  • Capable of identifying potential challenges and developing solutions related to cost, timelines, or technical requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously while adhering to deadlines.
  • Able to negotiate with suppliers, subcontractors, and clients to achieve favourable cost terms.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly convey project details and cost estimates to clients, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Ability to set clear objectives and ensuring alignment with company goals.
  • A high degree of accuracy is essential to avoid costly overruns or underbidding, ensuring all aspects of the project are covered in the estimate.
  • Knowledge of financial principles, including profit margins, cost-benefit analysis, and budgeting.
  • Ability to adjust estimates based on client changes, new project requirements, or unexpected challenges.
  • Team player but capable of working on own initiative to fully understand implications of changes and effective working methods
