Summary
JOB PURPOSE
To manage a team that provides a caring environment within which young people are respected and helped to resolve their personal difficulties.
ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
The Deputy Manager will be accountable to the unit managers.
JOB OBJECTIVES
1. To be responsible for the development and efficient operation of child care practice within the Unit.
2. To maintain systems and processes within the Unit which reflect the aims, objectives and philosophies of MGM care services.
JOB CONTENT
1. To oversee the day-to-day practice and undertake within the Unit including record-keeping
2. To initiate, develop and evaluate in conjunction with consultancy, appropriate individual care plans.
3. To supervise the professional work of the care staff and contribute to their annual appraisal interviews.
4. To contribute to the negotiation of a professional development plan for all staff in the unit.
5. To co-ordinate information for Case review from personal care workers and others
6. To liaise, when necessary, with external agencies.
7. To be on-call on a shared basis throughout the year.
8. To attend internal meetings as required.
9. To contribute to the development of innovatory professional practice/service delivery within the organisation.
10. To participate in the selection and appointment of staff as appropriate.
11. To ensure through duty staff that appointments for young people are kept.
12. To be responsible for all fire and safety procedures and the keeping of up-to-date records of fire drills.
13. To participate in any arrangements for the appraisal of his/her performance in carrying out the duties stated and to participate in own supervision.
14. To ensure that the young people have appropriate legal representation and are accompanied by a senior representative from MGM care services.
15. To liaise with the school.
16. To carry out any other duties that may be reasonably required from time to time, after consultation with the Unit Manager.

3. To develop new techniques and approaches to childcare provision.
JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
1. To hold, or demonstrate the ability to attain an appropriate qualification in management studies.
2. To have at least 2 years childcare experience, this should preferably have been as a Senior Care Worker or Deputy Manager.
3. To hold NVQ 3 or Diploma in caring for Children and young people.
